(KPL/VNA) Indonesian Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has announced that the relocation of President Prabowo Subianto's office to the new capital of Nusantara (IKN) is slated for August 17, 2028.
According to the official, the executive, legislative and judicial agencies, along with their civil servants, will move to Nusantara by August 2029. However, this plan may be adjusted depending on other government priorities, especially the food self-sufficiency programme, which the government is strongly investing in.
He said that the sustainable development of IKN is part of Indonesia's long-term strategy, but it is still necessary to ensure other priority projects, especially in the current context.
The development of Nusantara faces some major financial challenges. Hanggodo has proposed adding 14,87 trillion IDR (937 million USD) to the budget to fund the construction of key infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals. These are essential to ensure the efficient operation of the new capital.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Airlangga Hartarto affirmed that although President Prabowo Subianto will continue to implement the project on the new capital Nusantara, there will be certain adjustments in the development strategy to be suitable with the actual situation.
The Indonesian government is considering developing strategic projects in many areas to enhance self-sufficiency in food and energy and improve the quality of life for Indonesian people.
