Lao PDR Boosts Knowledge on Drone Use in Agriculture

(KPL) A training course on the use of drones and modern agricultural mechanization was held on July 28, 2025, at the Plant Protection Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vientiane. The event aimed to strengthen agricultural productivity in the Lao PDR through technological innovation.

The training was attended by Mr. Bounsou Soudmaly, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, and Mr. Zhong Chengcheng, Dean of Engineering at China Agricultural University, along with technicians, staff from relevant ministries, district agricultural offices, farmer groups, and university professors.

Participants received both theoretical and practical training on modern agricultural techniques from China, use of agricultural machinery and electronic tools, pest control strategies, drone operation for pesticide spraying and seeding as well as applications of flexible technology in demonstration gardens.

Mr. Bounsou emphasized the significance of adopting innovation in agricultural practices to reduce production costs, enhance competitiveness, and increase value-added processing. He noted that integrating drone and mechanization technologies will help solve economic and labor challenges while advancing Lao agriculture toward self-sufficiency and export potential.

He also expressed appreciation to development partners and stakeholders who provided technical and financial support, calling for continued collaboration from domestic and international actors to promote sustainable and meaningful use of modern agricultural technologies.
