(KPL) A cultural celebration marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Laos and Cuba was held at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane on December 1.

The highlight of the event was a mesmerizing ballet performance led by renowned Cuban artist Viengsay Valdes, captivating a large audience with her team’s exceptional display of artistry.

The event was organized to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic ties between Laos and Cuba on November 4, 1974. Attendees included Vice President of the National Assembly and President of the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association Chaleun Yiapaoheu, Cuban Ambassador to Laos Enna Viant Valdes, members of the National Assembly, police and armed forces personnel, students, Vientiane residents, and members of the Cuban community in Laos.

In his remarks, Vice President of the National Assembly Chaleun Yiapaoheu reflected on the enduring bond between the two nations.

“The Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Republic of Cuba are two nations located on different continents. Despite this distance, our countries share a strong tradition of patriotism and mutual support, rooted in the revolutionary spirit of the working class and laborers,” he said.

He further noted, “Today, even amidst the rapidly changing global landscape, the people of Laos are proud to witness the enduring friendship and collaboration between the two Parties, states, and peoples of Laos and Cuba.”

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1974, the two nations have fostered robust cooperation in various sectors, including education, public health, agriculture, judiciary, and youth development, bringing concrete benefits to peoples of the two countries.
