The 2025 China-ASEAN Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence convened in Nanning, Guangxi, marking a significant milestone in regional AI collaboration.

At the event, China and ASEAN member states jointly announced the commencement of construction for the China-ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Center on September 18.
According to official reports, the new center will serve as a hub for advancing practical cooperation in artificial intelligence.
Key focus areas will include strengthening the foundations for AI development, offering open-source and shared AI services, enhancing industrial collaboration, and promoting talent development. The initiative aims to accelerate the implementation of joint projects and foster the inclusive and sustainable application of AI technologies across the region.
In addition to launching the cooperation center, the roundtable introduced the China-ASEAN “AI+” Initiative, proposed the establishment of a China-ASEAN AI Ministerial Cooperation Mechanism, and unveiled several major cooperation outcomes.

The roundtable was co-hosted by China’s National Development and Reform Commission and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It seeks to establish a high-level platform for AI dialogue and exchange between China and ASEAN nations, promote practical cooperation in AI development and governance, and support the equitable distribution of AI benefits.
Representatives from ASEAN countries delivered remarks on topics including AI-driven development, the challenges of emerging technologies, and best practices in AI governance. They also offered recommendations for deepening regional collaboration in artificial intelligence.
