(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad has praised both state and private business sectors'effective cooperation in improving the government’s policy to ensure facilities for doing business and making investment in Lao PDR.
Mr Somsavat spoke at the 9th Lao Business Forum in Vientiane yesterday, which seeks to alleviate various challenges associated with doing business in Lao PDR in order to build an environment that will facilitate business operation and investment.
This will contribute to national socio-economic development and help to prepare for integration into the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
Currently, Lao PDR is preparing a report on the implementation of the 7th socio-economic development plan and is continuing to prepare for the 8th socio-economic development plan. All plans are expected to be successful, particularly the millennium development goals set for 2015 as well as integration into the ASEAN Economic Community in an effort to lift Laos out of least developed country status by 2020.
The 9th Lao Business Forum has the objective of summarizing solutions to the requests presented by the business sector at the 8th Business Forum, and discussing the issues that the business sector raises at the 9th Forum.
"In addition, there will be a presentation of the report about the discussion meetings between the public and business sectors, namely: the meeting with the Prime Minister held in April 2014, the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister in August 2014 on preparation for integration into the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, and the formulation of public-private sector coordination plans for the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI)," said the President of LNCCI, Mr Sisavath Thiravong.
"On behalf of business units consisting of domestic and foreign business entrepreneurs and investors, I would like to express my gratitude to the government for focusing on improvement of the environment for business operations through effective dialogue at the Lao Business Forum,"Mr Sisavath went on.
The LNCCI will continue to serve as secretariat for the preparation and organisation of the Lao Business Forum in order to become the platform for dialogue between the public and business sectors and to resolve various challenges and difficulties regarding the undertaking of business operations in each period.
