KPL (KPL) Six Mekong River region countries,  Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Thailand and Myanmar joined hands in cooperation on suppression and fight against illicit drugs.

(KPL) Six Mekong River region countries,  Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Thailand and Myanmar joined hands in cooperation on suppression and fight against illicit drugs.

The meeting was held at the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zonein in Bokeo province on June 25 under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos Lieutenant General Khamking Phuilamanyvong, Deputy Governor of Bokeo Province, Mr. Khamphaya Phompanthiya, representatives from the UNODC delegation from Lao PDR and representatives from the Mekong River region participated.

This meeting is to exchange information on the state of the illicit drug and the challenges in solving the drug problem in the six countries along the Mekong River.

In addition, this meeting is also to contribute to the celebration of the 37th anniversary of the International Anti-Drug Day on June 26.

The Lao PDR is one of the countries that is directly affected and faces the threat of the drug problem.

The Lao government always sees the importance and pays serious attention, and in the past has cooperated with various countries, in participating as a party to the international convention on the suppression of drugs and signed a bilateral cooperation memorandum on the suppression of drugs with 13 countries.

The cooperation of six countries Mekong sub-region is necessary, this meeting is an opportunity to present the exchange of experiences and ideas to assess the state of solving the challenges in the future together to be fruitful, aiming to prevent and solve the drug problem that is an obstacle and a threat.
