(KPL) Early this month, an information seminar on peace education was held in Dili, East Timor, hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace NGO in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

The seminar, aimed at introducing peace education to East Timor, took place in a conference room provided by the Ministry of Higher Education.

During the seminar, HWPL and its peace education programme were introduced, and explanations regarding the signing of an MOU were given. The seminar, attended by representatives from 15 institutions under the Ministry of Higher Education of Timor-Leste, was conducted with the cooperation of the Ministry of Higher Education of Timor-Leste, which recognizes the importance of peace education.

The seminar began with an introduction to HWPL, followed by an explanation of the necessity of peace education and the activities of HWPL in East Timor.

João António Soares, a lecturer from UNPAZ University, introduced the peace education curriculum based on a 12-lesson textbook and provided detailed explanations on how the peace education would be implemented. The peace education promoted by HWPL is one of the three projects for the submission of Article 10, Clause 38 of the DPCW to the United Nations international law. It aims to awaken the spirit of peace among citizens and encourage them to fulfill their duties as messengers of peace.

The HWPL Peace Education Department stated, "We will collaborate with educational institutions in East Timor to develop customized peace education programmes tailored to the specific needs of each organization and ensure their effective implementation."

Starting with this seminar, HWPL plans to strengthen its partnership with 15 institutions under the Ministry of Higher Education and promote the introduction of sustainable peace education throughout Timor-Leste. This will help spread a culture of peace throughout Timor-Leste's society and take a step forward in realizing sustainable peace.

In Taihe county, Fuyang, east China’s Anhui province, a unique stall has become a fixture in a local park every weekend and on public holidays. It does not sell snacks or trinkets. Instead, it displays cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manikins and first-aid kits, inviting passersby to stop, learn, and practice essential life-saving techniques free of charge. The stall is run by Wu Lei, deputy head of the medical consortium office at Taihe County People’s Hospital, and his wife Liu Jing, head nurse of the hospital’s emergency department. For more than eight years, the couple has dedicated their spare time to this "first-aid stall," while also leading a volunteer team to schools, communities, and government offices. Together, they have helped over 100,000 people acquire life-saving skills. Wu traces the origins of their endeavor to a tragedy that still weighs heavily on him.
