National Assembly’s 8th Ordinary Session to Address Key Economic, Legislative Issues

KPL The 8th Ordinary Session of the 9th legislature of the National Assembly (NA) is set to convene from November 18 to December 11, with key debates on urgent economic, financial, and investment matters, as well as legislative reforms.

(KPL) The 8th Ordinary Session of the 9th legislature of the National Assembly (NA) is set to convene from November 18 to December 11, with key debates on urgent economic, financial, and investment matters, as well as legislative reforms.

During a press conference on November 13, Mrs. Amphayvone Lombounpheng, Secretary of the National Assembly, outlined several critical issues on the agenda for the upcoming session. These include the adoption of amended and newly drafted laws aimed at fostering efficient socio-economic development and maintaining social order.

A key focus will be the government’s report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan, the state budgetary plan, the 2024 currency plan as well as the plan for 2025, the government’s report on a draft strategic plan for the management and development of agricultural land through 2030, with a vision extending to 2040. Additionally, the state budget for 2025 and the allocation of funds to ministries, organizations, and localities will be discussed.

The session will also address the progress of the education system reform strategy, along with plans for the development of national human resources. Legislative evaluations will cover the implementation of four significant laws: the Law on Education, the Law on the Control of Alcoholic Beverages, the Law on Labour, and the Law on Labels.

Other important reports to be presented include the state audit agency’s review of 2024 activities, its 2025 work plan, and the National Committee’s progress on amending the 2015 Constitution of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The two-week session, excluding weekends, is expected to result in the approval of 20 resolutions.
