(KPL) Delivering a guidance speech at the recent annual meeting of the Department of Labour Management, Mr. Phongxaysack Inthalath, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, urged the department to prioritize the development and enforcement of sub-laws on labour matters to achieve tangible results.

He emphasized the importance of evaluating the implementation of the Labour Law 2013, endorsing the National Action Plan on the Prevention and Elimination of Child Labour and Decent Work Promotion for Youth (2023–2025) as well as Vision 2030.

The deputy minister called for the adoption of a formula for calculating the minimum wage for workers in Laos, the approval of draft occupational safety and health standards for workplaces, and stressed the need for enhanced tripartite cooperation as a critical element.

Particular attention, he noted, should be given to protecting vulnerable groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and disadvantaged populations, ensuring their rights are upheld in accordance with international, ASEAN, and national labour standards.

Mr. Phongxaysack also highlighted the importance of managing foreign workers through the issuance of work permits, strengthening oversight of labour units nationwide, and conducting health checks for workers to safeguard their well-being and the interests of the nation as a whole.
