(KPL) On February 12, 2025, corresponding to the 15th day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month (Makha Bucha Day) in the year 2566 of the Buddhist Era, Gen. Vilay Lakhamfong, Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Public Security, along with other Party and government leaders at both central and local levels, joined Buddhist devotees in a merit-making ceremony.

They offered alms and various donations at the ancient Wat Phu Champassak, Laos' second UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A group of over 390 monks led the religious ceremony, paying respects to the Triple Gem, also known as the Three Jewels or Triratna, performing religious chants, and sprinkling holy water to bless the attendees. Following this, devotees offered alms to the monks, bowed in reverence to seek blessings at the ancient Wat Phu site, and participated in traditional Baci ceremonies.

The alms offering at the ancient Wat Phu Champassak not only continues the beautiful cultural traditions of the nation—preserved by the people of Champassak Province since ancient times—but also celebrates the successful Visit Laos Year.

Additionally, the event aimed to attract more tourists to Wat Phu Champassak, Laos' second World Heritage Site.
