PM Meets with Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary

KPL Politburo Member and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, To Lam, on Thursday , during his visit to attend the memorial services for the late General Khamtay Siphandone — former President of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and former State President — who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102.

(KPL) Politburo Member and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, To Lam, on Thursday , during his visit to attend the memorial services for the late General Khamtay Siphandone — former President of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and former State President — who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, on behalf of the Party, Government, and multiethnic people of Laos, especially the Siphandone family, expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Comrade To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for leading a high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the mourning ceremony.

This act reflects deep sorrow shared by the Party, Government, and people of Laos and demonstrates the unique and special bond between Laos and Vietnam—an inseparable relationship akin to that of beloved brothers in one family.

The Vietnamese delegation was the first foreign delegation to attend the ceremony.

The passing of General Khamtay Siphandone is not only a great loss to the Siphandone family but also the greatest loss to the Party, the Government, and the multiethnic people of Laos. On this occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone reaffirmed the commitment to continue working closely with the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam to preserve, nurture, and further strengthen the special Laos-Vietnam relationship, ensuring it continues to flourish, deepen, and remain strong and vibrant over time.

At the same time, General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam, expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the Party, Government, and multiethnic people of Laos, especially to the Siphandone family, for the loss of a highly respected leader. 

He expressed confidence that the Lao Party, Government, and people, as well as the Siphandone family, will overcome this profound loss and continue to advance the nation’s development toward prosperity and lasting success.
