Police Prepare for Lao New Year Traffic Safety Measures

ຂປລ The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security is taking proactive measures to prevent road accidents during the Lao New Year celebrations, which will take place from April 11-17, 2025. Traffic police will conduct inspections focusing on speed checks, breathalyzer tests, helmet enforcement for motorcyclists, and efficient traffic management at intersections to ease congestion.

(KPL) The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security is taking proactive measures to prevent road accidents during the Lao New Year celebrations, which will take place from April 11-17, 2025. Traffic police will conduct inspections focusing on speed checks, breathalyzer tests, helmet enforcement for motorcyclists, and efficient traffic management at intersections to ease congestion.

Colonel Khamsone Sidavong, Director of the Traffic Police Department, stated at a press conference on March 28, 2025, that a significant number of accidents and fatalities occur during the festive period. To mitigate risks and ensure a safe and joyous celebration, the department will deploy 1,172 traffic officers, including 60 from the central Traffic Police Department. Additionally, 143 checkpoints will be established along national, provincial, district, and urban roads.

Colonel Khamsone urged all drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and directives from local authorities. He emphasized the importance of responsible driving and reiterated a strict prohibition against driving under the influence of alcohol. Speed limits must be observed, with urban and community areas restricted to a maximum of 40 kilometers per hour, to help reduce road accidents.
