(KPL) The 12th National Games, also known as the Vientiane Games 2025, are set to officially take place from November 15 to 25, 2025, in Vientiane Capital.

The Games have designated the That Luang Stupa as their official emblem and the peacock as the mascot. The slogan for this year’s competition is “Unity, Discipline – Transparency – Development.”

A total of 33 sports and one demonstration sport will be contested, covering around 400 events. More than 2,000 athletes from across the country are expected to participate. Following the main event, the 4th National Para Games will be held in early December 2025.

At a press conference on October 12, 2025, Mr. Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Mayor of Vientiane and President of the Organising Committee for the 12th National Games, provided updates on the preparations. He confirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly, with over 95% of facilities and venues completed. A final inspection is scheduled for October 30, 2025, to confirm full readiness.

Vientiane Capital has arranged sufficient accommodation, with numerous hotels and guesthouses ready to welcome athletes, coaches, and officials from all 17 provinces and the capital. Educational institutions will not be used for lodging.

Technical and regulatory arrangements for each sport have been reviewed and approved by their respective federations to ensure fair competition, showcase athletic excellence, and promote an atmosphere of sportsmanship, solidarity, and friendship.

Preparations in other areas — including logistics, healthcare, sanitation, security, city beautification, and public transport — are also well advanced. These measures aim to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants and visitors.

The Torch Relay began on October 12, 2025, starting from the Vientiane Administration Office and proceeding to Sangthong District, with representatives from Vientiane Province and Bolikhamxay Province joining the inaugural leg. The relay will continue through all nine districts of Vientiane, with two provinces participating in each district.

The Sacred Torch Ceremony is scheduled for November 14, and the torch will enter the stadium during the opening ceremony on November 15, 2025.
