(KPL) In a solemn ceremony on April 23, Buddhist monks, senior Party and state leaders, and family members escorted the ashes of the late General Khamtay Siphandone from Saphanthong Tai Temple in Sisattanak District to their final resting place at Vientiane's National Cemetery.
The former President and revolutionary leader will now rest alongside fellow patriots who sacrificed for Laos' national liberation.
Politburo member and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone also took part in the ceremony.
At the ceremony, General Chansamone Chanyalath, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister, delivered a eulogy on behalf of the Party and government leaders, and the Siphandone family:

"Throughout nearly eight decades of revolutionary activity, Comrade General Khamtay Siphandone has proven himself to be an outstanding and steadfast revolutionary leader of our Party. Throughout his entire revolutionary life, he remained dynamic and vigorous, unwavering in his ideals, firmly upholding the Party's policies and directions, and strategic vision. He made immense contributions to leading and organizing the Party's revolutionary cause from its very establishment, guiding its gradual expansion until achieving complete victory."
General Khamtay passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at age 102. As a key architect of Laos' 1986 reform policies, he played a pivotal role in both the revolution and the nation's modernization.
