(KPL) Addressing a nationwide meeting on agriculture, forestry, and rural development on January 31, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone called on the sector to prioritize commercial agriculture to meet domestic demand and increase exports.

He emphasized the need to focus on key agricultural products and livestock, ensuring compliance with trade agreements Laos has signed with its partners. He also urged improvements in agricultural standards, product quality, and the development of high-quality animal and plant breeds.

PM Sonexay highlighted the importance of expanding animal feed and fertilizer factories to support agricultural growth.

“In the future, district agricultural officials must guide farmers in modern farming techniques. It is also essential to accelerate the listing of agricultural products for production to reduce imports and curb foreign exchange outflows,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also called for improvements in agricultural infrastructure and the effective allocation of farmland based on regional natural advantages. He stressed the importance of sustainable management practices for agricultural land and irrigation facilities.

The annual agriculture and forestry sector meeting reviewed progress in agricultural, forestry, and rural development over the past year and outlined priorities for 2025.
