Laos, Thailand boost defence cooperation

(KPL/VNA) Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence Saichay Kommasith on July 21 held talks with Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) General Songwit Noonpackdee, who is an official visit to Laos, to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.

The two sides discussed measures to boost cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

According to the Lao Ministry of National Defence, they agreed to step up collaboration through high-level exchanges, deepen economic ties, and expand joint efforts by the Lao and Thai armed forces.

The discussions focused particularly on maintaining border security through joint peacekeeping initiatives, addressing cross-border challenges such as drug trafficking and illegal immigration, and forming mechanisms to support agricultural and livestock development between the two armies.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular high-level visits based on mutual trust. They also agreed to further cooperate in humanitarian aid, disaster response, and medical exchanges, while expanding engagement within the ASEAN framework.
