On July 24, 2025, the Viet-Laos Energy Investment and Development Joint Stock Company presented financial assistance to the Government of the Lao PDR at the Prime Minister's Office to support the review and improvement of the country’s energy development strategy and provide aid for the 2025 flood disaster.

(KPL) On July 24, 2025, the Viet-Laos Energy Investment and Development Joint Stock Company presented financial assistance to the Government of the Lao PDR at the Prime Minister's Office to support the review and improvement of the country’s energy development strategy and provide aid for the 2025 flood disaster.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. The donation was presented by Mr. Le Thanh Tao, Chairman of the Viet-Laos Energy Investment and Development JSC, and received on behalf of the Lao government by Mr. Bouakhong Nammavong, Minister and Head of the Prime Minister's Office, along with Deputy Ministers and other concerned officials.
The financial support includes USD 1 million earmarked for reviewing and enhancing the national energy development strategy, and 3 billion kip dedicated to relief efforts related to the 2025 flood disaster.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay highlighted the widespread damage caused by the floods and provided updates on the government’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts. He expressed deep appreciation to the Viet-Laos Energy Investment and Development JSC for its humanitarian spirit and consistent support, emphasizing that the assistance is timely and aligned with the country’s pressing needs. He stated that the donation would significantly contribute to energy sector development and aid in restoring the lives of disaster-affected citizens.
The Prime Minister further noted that this contribution reflects the strengthening of the special solidarity, great friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. He assured that the assistance will be used transparently and effectively by relevant authorities.
In addition, the Prime Minister commended the company for its progress on investment projects, particularly the Truong Xen Wind Power Project in Bolikhamxay Province, which began at the end of 2023. The project is progressing rapidly and is expected to generate and export 600 megawatts of electricity by the end of 2025. He also recognized the company’s contributions to infrastructure development, such as roads, bridges, housing assistance for low-income families, and other community upliftment initiatives in the project area.
Mr. Le Thanh Tao, for his part, expressed gratitude to the Lao government and relevant authorities for their facilitation and oversight of the project. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing the wind power project and other planned investments in the Lao PDR, while continuing to contribute to sustainable development and local community well-being.
